Fr. James W. McLaughlin

Father McLaughlin is a native of Pittston, Pennsylvania. He attended Kings College, Wilkes Barre, PA, Marywood College, Scranton, PA and Pope John XXIII Seminary, Weston, Massachusetts. Father McLaughlin was ordained May 25, 1996. Prior to ordination, he served as a school teacher for a number of years. His last assignment was at St. Peters, New Brunswick where he served as principal of St. Peters High School. Father McLaughlin was named pastor of St. Matthew's on June 10, 2003

Father Guy W. Selvester

Father Guy W. Selvester was born and raised in the village of Old Bethpage on New York’s Long Island. The youngest of four children of Alfred & Patricia Selvester he attended St. Pius X Parish School in Plainview, N.Y. as well as the Plainview-Old Bethpage public schools. He is a 1982 graduate of Chaminade High School, Mineola, N.Y.
Father Guy attended St. John’s University in New York for one year and then earned a B.A. in Philosophy from St. Francis University in Loretto, PA in 1986. He earned a Master of Divinity degree “cum laude” from St. Vincent Seminary, Latrobe, Pa in 1990.
From 1991-1992 Father Guy worked briefly as a Security Officer at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. After returning to priestly studies he earned an M.A. in Theology “magna cum laude” from Immaculate Conception Seminary in Huntington, N.Y. and pursued one year of formational studies at Pope John XXIII National Seminary in Massachusetts. He was ordained a Deacon in May, 1997 by Bishop Edward Hughes and a priest on September 27, 1997 by the late Bishop Vincent Breen.
Father Guy has served the diocese of Metuchen at St. Francis Cathedral, St. Philip & St. James in Phillipsburg, Our Lady of Peace in Fords and Immaculate Conception in Spotswood. From 1998-2003 he served as the host of the diocesan radio program, “Proclaim the Good News”.
Father Guy’s ministerial interests include Adult Education, Liturgical Formation and Sacramental Preparation. He served for three years as Master of Ceremonies at St. Francis Cathedral and has worked extensively in liturgical education, planning and formation. His personal interests include music (he plays the trumpet), cinema, theatre and heraldry (the history and study of coats-of-arms). His heraldic design work includes the diocese’s coat-of-arms as well as the personal coat-of-arms of the late Bishop Vincent Breen and our present Bishop as well as several prelates and institutions around the country and the world.
Father Guy is an Oblate of St. Benedict, a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of Theta Alpha Kappa (National Theological/religious Studies Honor Society), a member of Alpha Psi Omega (National Drama Honor Society) and a Fellow of both The Ermine Society and The American College of Heraldry.

Deacon Frank Yuhas, Pastoral Associate

Frank Yuhas was born in Fords, NJ, in May 1948, the first son of Frank and Jesse Yuhas. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Church (Fords). He attended grade school in Fords and then graduated from JFK Memorial High School (Iselin) in 1966. Frank served as a rifleman with the 25th Infantry Division in the Republic of South Vietnam in 1968 and was the recipient of a Bronze Star for Valor and two Purple Hearts. In October of 1969, he married Kristine Kirby at St. Cecelia’s Church (Iselin). They have two sons, Jonathan and Christian. Frank assumed the duties of Parish Youth Minister in September 1992, and the Youth Group has grown considerably in these 6 years. The Jr. Youth Group was started in September 1996. In addition, Frank was named Director of the R.C.I.A. Program in March 1997. Frank has received his certification as a Youth Minister and Master Catechist. He has also taken courses in R.C.I.A. at LaSalle University (Philadelphia) and Spiritual Direction at Creighton University (Nebraska). He is presently enrolled in the Honors Program at Felician College working towards his BA in Religious Studies and Philosophy. A lifelong NY Yankees fan, Frank is also a collector of old "Delta Blues" albums. He has often said that one of his greater pleasures is his ministry, and mentoring to others has rekindled his passion for life.

Mary Carroll

Mary Carroll was born in Glen Falls, NY, the youngest of the four children of Thomas and Mary Kelleher Christensen. She attended Catholic schools in the Diocese of Albany and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the College of St. Rose, in Albany, NY. She married Kevin Carroll and moved to Fort Benning, GA where Kevin was assigned to the Army Officers Infantry School and Office of Management and Budget. During their two years in GA, their daughter Jennifer was born. Upon completion of his military service, the family settled in New Jersey. Kevin began a career in the banking field while Mary stayed at home to care for their growing family, which soon included sons Michael and then Brendan. After her youngest child was in school full time, Mary began substitute teaching in St. Matthew School. In early 1985, she was asked to assist, on a part time basis, in the implementation of new accounting procedures in the parish. In 1990, she assumed the full time accounting position, remaining in that role until December of 2000.  Mary began graduate work at the Caldwell College and received a Master of Arts Degree in Pastoral Ministry. She is currently a Pastoral Associate at St. Matthew the Apostle parish focusing her efforts in the area of Stewardship, Evangelization, and Development. Mary previously served various roles on the HSA Executive Board, Social Ministry Group, and Finance Council and Carnival Steering Committee. She currently serves as coordinator of Eucharistic Ministers for liturgies and is commissioned as a Eucharistic Minister for liturgies as well as to the homebound, is a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society, and serves as the co-chair for the Stewardship Committee, a collection counting team.
