MUSIC MINISTRY: St. Matthew Music Ministry is made up of three vocal choirs, two handbell choirs and a cantor guild. In addition, we are always looking for instrumentalists like guitarists, percussion players, wind instrumentalists, etc.
Please contact the Director of Music, David Jules at [email protected]. You can follow St. Matthew’s Music Ministry by “liking” our Facebook page
All choirs involve a serious commitment of time. Choir members are expected to inform the Director of Music of all absences as far in advance as possible. Schedules will be given out at rehearsal.
Our cantor guild is made up of volunteers who undergo intensive training in order to lead the assembly in song. We are currently undergoing a year-long process to become certified by the National Association of Pastoral Musicians. Cantors must be active members of the Adult Choir and are auditioned by the Director of Music.
Adult Choir is made up of singers ages 18+. We sing moderate to difficult four-part (SATB) music of all styles and genres, from chant to gospel, from Bach to Britten and beyond. Choir rehearses on Thursday nights from 8:00 to 9:30 PM in the church and ministers at the 10:30 AM Sunday mass, as well as Holy Days and special events. Choir members are also expected to participate in concerts and fund raising and recruitment activities such as our Irish Night Dinner and Carnival booth.
Youth Choir is open to singers in grades 8-12. We sing three part music, with an emphasis on contemporary style. We sing monthly at the 9:00 AM liturgy. We also provide music for Christmas, Easter, Good Friday, Confirmation, and our annual “Living Stations” service during Lent.
Children's Choir is open to all students in grades 3-7. We emphasize proper vocal production, score reading and liturgical catechesis. Children’s Choir normally sings at the 5:00 PM Saturday night mass, as well as Christmas, Easter and First Communion.
